Ink Cartridge
Replacements
The
red blinker in front of my printer is flashing again, indicating
that my ink is running low. Low on color ink cartridge again!
Seemed like I just replaced this a few weeks ago and I thought
I didn't really use the printer that much. Guess I should start
conserving more on my prints or find a cheaper
alternative to getting quality printouts without stressing
my wallet.
I
just bought my Epson printer last year and it came with a couple
of ink cartridges. I wanted to see how long these ink cartridges
would last so I can gauge how much I should conserve on my prints.
I have the tendency to print everything though... journals, maps,
movie schedules, ebooks, interesting tid bits I find on the internet.
Just about anything I need information on at the moment.
What I really cut back on is printing high quality photo prints.
My printer does a great job with photo printouts, specially on
glossy paper. I just bought a new Canon digital camera (sweeeet!)
that I use indiscriminately now that I don't have to pay for film
or developing, what an awesome technology. All I need is a lot
of hard drive space and I do have a lot to keep me shooting pictures
all day long! I can always store those photo's and print them
out later but I wish I could print out more of those great shots.
Those 8.5 x 11's make impressive souvenirs and gifts.
I
checked on the prices for ink replacement at Office Depot and
Staples and they cost between $36-$40 for a color ink replacement.
Slightly cheaper for the black ink (I think they should be a lot
cheaper since its only black). So I'm looking at around $70 to
$80 for ink replacement which I'm dreading because they cost too
darn much for something that seems to run out really fast.
Hey,
Ink isn't really a high priority on my list. Well, not until I
completely run out and suddenly have a report I need printed out
the next day and as a graphic and web designer, I really need
my printer working almost all the time. Hey, I guess it is kind
of on the priority list. I just think ink shouldn't cost so much
but since the manufacturers come up with the price, it seems like
you don't have much of a choice.
I
guess that's why the printers are sold cheap because the printer
companies really make their money with the ink that you constantly
need to replace.
Anyway,
last summer I went to a computer convention at the Moscone Center
in San Francisco and found a booth selling super cheap ink on
most of the major brands (as far
as I can tell from the brand name list they had on their flyers).
I was tempted to buy a bunch since surely these guys would not
be here next week and I probably won't see them again unless they
or I come back to the same trade show the following year, unlikely.
Less than $10 for an ink replacement that normally sells for $35-40!
That's just too cheap, it probably has some quality problems I'm
sure. I bought a couple to test out. I didn't want to buy any
more than that though I was tempted to. I probably don't use that
much ink anyway, I thought, since I still had some ink in my fairly
new Epson printer. It was a month or so after the convention that
I finally ran out of color ink and got to try the cheap cartridge
I had bought. To my surprise, the color quality was great. Specially
with photo prints. There was no difference with my original cartridge
and the replacement. Now I wish I had bought more.
Several
months later when my ink ran out again, I wanted to get my ink
from Office Depot or some cheap office supply store. I really
wish I had the contact information from the ink supplier at that
computer convention but I didn't really think their product was
of quality until I had tried it out. Now I didn't want to go out
and pay $40 for ink I knew I could get for less than $10 so I
did some research and found another company that sells ink for
that same low price (I even got free shipping at that time). I
made my order and tried the ink. The quality was great for both
ordinary prints and photo printouts on glossy paper. This time
I'm keeping their address. I didn't want to have to go to conventions
to get cheap ink, though you might find a lot of other great deals
there too.

prices here. Happy printing!
